Project Update

Summer time is busy-time, and not much time for blogging-time! I thought that the insurance man's family would appreciate an update on his big backyard project. Since our blog is dedicated to beauty, and there isn't much beauty yet in the project, I will ask you to look ahead to the beauty that is yet to come.... Most recently he has stopped building flower/vegetable beds and has been building a form for a foundation for a Pergola that he is going to install. He has the area cleared of the old veggie beds and leveled, and that was a huge project in and of itself.
Here are two of the beds he has made. The one by the fence has glads growing, and the triangle one has the herbs from my old herb bed. They are the only planted ones, and probably will be the only ones until next spring.

Here are a couple of other future beds. He is getting quite creative in his shapes and design.

This is his rock garden. As opposed to the other beds, which are made from landscape stones, this one is made from the lava rock he has dug up on our property. He plans to mix in his rock collection with small rock garden plants
Here is his completed foundation form....the Pergola will be 10 feet square.

Last Saturday morning two of his friends came by for a few hours and the three of them mixed up 28 bags of concrete for the foundation.

Then of course came the shoveling and pouring...it was so great to have a little help. They started about 7:30 and finished by noon.

Here is the concrete work in progress... and this week the concrete is dry, the forms taken down and the corner pillars going up. Stay tuned...

Wow! I'm impressed! No wonder you are getting so skinny. Love, Elna
