Cake Decorating Fun

I just got finished doing a birthday post for my son, Benjamin, over at my other blog. I decided to post a picture of his cake here. I wanted to share it, because it was such a rare delight for me. I've always wanted to try out some cake decorating and I finally got my chance. It was actually, really fun. I got the idea for this cake from a Martha Stewart Kids magazine that I had from several years ago. It was very simple. The only difficult part was frosting the cake with cream cheese icing. Cream cheese icing tastes great, but it's not the easiest thing to spread on a cut out cake. That part took me a while. The actual piping out of the icing was really fun. I didn't use cream cheese icing for that. I thought it would be too thick. I used a regular powdered sugar/butter icing for that. Isn't the little flag fun?
There's nothing I love more than to create things. That was a fun time. It was delightful because it was the first time too.

The cake turned out really cute. I'm glad you had fun making it after just completing the other one for Millie. The piping looks great, no one would know it was your first time. I always hated to go to that much work, to have it eaten in 5 minutes....but I know how much your family enjoyed it!
